Experience that brings complex technology together.
Virtu's proven experience has been built supporting oil and gas operators through growth, acquisition, application integration, migration and managed IT. These projects demonstrate the hands-on delivery and ongoing accountability we bring to complex energy environments.
01 / TAILWIND ENERGYTailwind Energy
Tailwind held a UK North Sea portfolio with 41.8 million barrels of oil equivalent in net proved and probable reserves at 1 January 2022.
Where Onyx began.
The need
A specialist environment starting with 6 users and 4 key applications, supporting both internal and external users.
What Virtu did
Starting in 2017, we built the initial Onyx platform at Tailwind. Its on-premises approach was selected over established private-cloud alternatives, and scaled it to 15 users and approximately 15 applications before the acquisition.
What followed
That foundation supported the move into Serica and the integration of the two companies' subsurface environments.
Serica Energy
Serica operates assets that deliver around 10% of the UK’s gas production.
A subsurface platform that grows with the business.
The need
Bring growing subsurface teams, their applications and technical data into a dependable working environment through acquisitions.
What Virtu did
After Serica acquired Tailwind, we brought both subsurface environments together in Onyx. Working alongside the M&A teams, we brought Prax, Total and Spirit users, data and applications into the environment, including migrations from Delfi to private cloud. These transitions took weeks rather than months: data was made available quickly, and users were able to get to work in Onyx with straightforward onboarding.
Where it stands
Virtu currently supports a mid-sized subsurface team and manages around 30 specialist applications, including Petrel, tNavigator, REP5, PaleoScan, Eclipse and INTERSECT simulation clusters.
Volumex Energy
Volumex Energy is backed by Quantum Capital Group, a global energy investment firm.
Managing IT, including subsurface.
The need
Ongoing management of Volumex’s IT, including its specialist subsurface technology.
What Virtu did
Volumex engaged Virtu to provide an outsourced managed IT service, including subsurface, with a member of our team acting as IT Director.
Growing together
We work closely with the business to keep its technology aligned with its plans, with an approach designed to grow as its portfolio develops.
04 / SAMOS ENERGYSamos Energy
Samos Energy is an international energy investment platform operating in seven countries, with typical transactions of $50–500 million.
Outsourced IT with ongoing accountability.
The engagement
Virtu has looked after Samos’s IT since 2023 through an outsourced managed IT service.
How we work
A member of Virtu acts as Samos’s IT Manager, connecting IT management with the ongoing service.
05 / CURRENT ENGAGEMENTMeren
Meren Energy’s producing asset interests include exposure to three of Nigeria’s five largest fields by production.
Planning the next stage.
Virtu is working with Meren on a business proposal for its future subsurface technology environment.
