Workstations and access
Eight new workstations formed part of the initial delivery, giving incoming users access to the combined environment.
Serica operates assets that deliver around 10% of the UK’s gas production.
From the Tailwind integration to subsequent acquisition programmes, Virtu has helped Serica bring subsurface users, data and applications into one managed environment.
Back to Our WorkAfter Serica acquired Tailwind, the subsurface teams needed their users, technical data and specialist applications brought together into a dependable working environment.
Virtu had built and supported Tailwind’s platform since 2017. That knowledge provided a foundation for the combined environment, now known as Onyx.
Serica adopted the on-premises approach rather than Delfi. Virtu delivered eight new workstations and migrated users and data within weeks, bringing the two subsurface environments together.
The work connected the practical requirements of the transition: workstations for the team, access to project data, specialist applications and the support needed to get users working in Onyx.
Eight new workstations formed part of the initial delivery, giving incoming users access to the combined environment.
We brought users and technical data across while integrating the specialist application estate into the platform.
Tailwind and Serica’s subsurface environments came together in Onyx, extending the foundation built at Tailwind.
Virtu continued to support the applications and underlying environment as the combined team developed.
Working alongside the M&A teams, Virtu subsequently integrated subsurface users, data and applications from Prax, Total and Spirit into the Serica environment.
These programmes included migrations from Delfi into private-cloud environments. We brought the incoming teams’ technology requirements together with the platform already supporting Serica’s subsurface work.
The transitions took weeks rather than months. Technical data was made available quickly, and straightforward onboarding helped users get to work in Onyx.
Virtu now supports a subsurface environment spanning interpretation, modelling and reservoir simulation, with 40+ users and around 30 specialist applications.
The application estate includes Petrel, tNavigator, REP5, PaleoScan, Eclipse and INTERSECT, with simulation clusters supporting compute-intensive workloads.
Applications, licensing, workstations, data, compute and support are managed as connected parts of the working environment.
The original Tailwind environment became the basis for a larger Serica platform, accommodating additional teams, applications and technical data.
Successive transitions built practical knowledge of moving subsurface users, data and applications into an established environment.
Workstation delivery, data migration and onboarding supported the initial transition and subsequent integration programmes.
Virtu’s involvement continued beyond migration, with specialist support for the environment and the people using it.
