Data access and portability
Understand where technical information resides, who controls it and what formats and interfaces can actually be used across applications.
AI is accelerating parts of software development and may bring a wider choice of specialist tools to energy and subsurface teams. Companies should be able to evaluate those tools on their merits — without being unnecessarily constrained by previous infrastructure, data or licensing decisions.
Virtu helps customers plan for that future. We combine independent architecture, specialist application integration, technical data management and ongoing operations so that technology choices remain aligned with commercial and engineering needs.
We don't believe adopting new technology should mean discarding everything that works. Established products such as Petrel or tNavigator may remain essential to a team, even as new interpretation, modelling or AI tools become available. The goal is a coherent environment that can support appropriate choices — not change for its own sake.
Understand where technical information resides, who controls it and what formats and interfaces can actually be used across applications.
Align workstations, compute, storage, security and connectivity with the workloads, rather than a single application vendor's preferred environment.
Test the compatibility and quality of workflows across software packages. Geological interpretations and simulation outputs require domain-expert checking; a file exchange alone doesn't prove equivalence.
Know the costs and consequences of licensing, data access, supplier support, contract renewal and future migrations before committing to major platform decisions.
Introduce new capabilities in stages, verify their value with users and retain support for business-critical workflows.
Application changes require assessment of proprietary project formats, licensing, conversion effort, training and domain-expert validation. Data exchange alone does not establish equivalent results.
AI-assisted software development is already changing the tools and techniques used by development teams. It could reduce the effort needed to create focused technical applications, though mature subsurface applications remain difficult to replicate and validate.
For energy businesses, the sensible response is to prepare data, interfaces, compute and governance so proven innovations can be adopted safely. Virtu's role is to help select, integrate and operate those technologies — not to promise that AI will replace every established application.
Virtu does not need to write replacement geoscience applications. Our role is architecture, interoperable infrastructure, integration, migration, vendor coordination and ongoing operations.
Platforms such as SLB Delfi and Lumi already support forms of openness and integration. But openness on paper and the ability to change suppliers at acceptable cost are not always the same thing. The practical questions are whether your team can access and move its data, combine supported tools, maintain performance and make commercially sensible changes.
We help answer those questions objectively, whether that means keeping existing SLB software, introducing a specialist alternative, or combining applications from multiple suppliers.
Virtu can review the application estate, dependencies, licensing and infrastructure, identify realistic alternatives and build a business case for change.
